Since 2001 until today, the spread of Cheng Hoo mosque development has continued to increase, there have been a total of 18 Cheng Hoo mosque buildings built throughout 4 of the 5 major islands in Indonesia (Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan and Sulawesi). From total of 18 mosques, 15 of them have been inaugurated and the rest 3 are still under construction.
Fundamentally, one of the most interesting point is in an Indonesia-wide context, the Cheng Hoo Mosque represents the rst ethnic Chinese mosque, promoting Chinese culture in a local context and making use of Chinese architectural design, both internally and externally.
The construction of a Chinese-style mosque that developed rapidly become an interesting point to learn deeper. Especially when in the midst of the modernization era that inspired many experts to build modern-style building including mosque, which still applying religious philosophy and vernacular architecture, or Middle Eastern-style mosques design, the emergence of Chinese-style mosque in Chinese-Minority country raises some big questions
